SEO And Website Design Tip: How to Rank #1 on Google | 7 Steps to SEO Success

These days, most businesses understand the basic concepts of SEO and why it’s important. However, when it comes to developing and executing a sound SEO strategy for your business, just creating content for the keywords your customers are searching for is both arduous and, well, wrong.

In this video I will explain how I reverse engineer my competitors websites, and find ultimate success at the top of the first page on Google.

1. Keyword Research: Target specific Google keywords and review actual statistics.

2. Review Top 3 Websites: Organic websites only, excluding directories such as Yelp.

3. Create a Spread Sheet: Word count, number of photos & videos, page URL and page title.

4. Search & Find: The Number of times the keyword is used on this website page.

5. Competitor Link Building Strategies: Directories, associations, press releases and all backlinks.

6. Compare # of Google Reviews: Reviews are becoming increasingly more important in local SEO rankings.

7. Create a Strategy: Each keyword requires it’s own strategy, original content and a unique website page.

  2. Hey Chris I just wanted to say thanks for this video. I watched it last week and immediately put your advice into action. Based on these 7 steps I went ahead and created a web page for my brothers website on a service he wanted to rank for. I spent all of Saturday & Sunday working on it.

On the following Tuesday afternoon I started doing searches on Google to see if anything had happened yet and I couldn't believe it when I saw that page ranked on PAGE 1 RESULTS! Before I started that page, he was showing up on page 7 for those keywords. I couldn't believe how fast it was to move to the first page. I know it's probably not normal to rank that quickly but damn man I owe it all to you for making this video.

I have had no previous SEO experience and used my brothers website for practice because my goal is open an SEO & Website Design Company and this really lifted my spirits. I will continue to watch every single video you put out from now on, and go back and watch all your previous ones. Thanks so much bro for putting in the time to teach us.

  3. Hey Chris thank you so so much for your easy to follow tutorials I have always buried my head in the sand when it comes to SEO but your videos make me feel like I don't have to anymore. My site is nowhere to be seen on google searches for some reason seems to not be listed for any of the photography services I offer. I have been watching a few of your vids to try and bust this case wide open. But one thing I struggle with is adding my business to local directories and NAP because I am a nomadic photographer who is not in one place. Do you know if I am forever changing the telephone number/location if google sees me as unsafe? Or as long as they all match and are all changed it's ok? I want people to contract me from different places giving me the opportunity to travel with my work but this is a hard framework to input into and maybe slightly confusing for Google. Any advice from you would be tremendously appreciated. All the best, Rachel

  4. Great video, like always. I've heard you mention that you bold the keywords for on-page seo (ie…website design toronto). Is there a specific reason you do so? Is it for making it easier for the user to recognize the content on the page? Is it at all for the search engine?

  5. Hi Chris! Found a small typo on your website on the About page. Inside the first box under the “A nerds world promise” section. Sorry to put this on the public comment section but I couldn’t find your private email on YouTube.

  6. Technically 'best web developer in toronto' is a key phrase and 'developer' would be a keyword. It's easier to call them all keywords though. Just in case someone found others talking about phrases and wondered what was going on.
It's important for people just getting started with SEO to understand that they have to use keywords where it feels natural. Chris doesn't mention this but I know he means it. Don't fall for 'keyword stuffing' where people are adding them throughout the page just to increase the number of times it's used. If it doesn't feel right, don't add it. If necessary, write more content so that you can add more keywords.
Anyway, great video, keep up the good work. Enjoying them all.

  7. First time comment, but I literally watched just about every single video you uploaded to youtube and I will be rewatching them again incase I missed something, I ran into your channel on accident I always wanted to start a web design business and I have finally took the leap and got it going closed my first client today took a few follow ups i was about to stop following up on the last call then I remembered you said that websites arent always sold on the first meet and the key is to follow up so I ignored that feeling I had in my stomach of being rejected and called back 30 minutes later 30 minutes after that I was in front of him and closed the sale and because of what I learned from you I will help me to feed my family and welcome to my home city Las Vegas

  8. Thank you Chris. Continued success as you continue to share to the rest of us. Happy 10th anniversary to you and your wife, safe travels and stay blessed!

  9. It. Is so awesome that you share such relevant and helpful information! With so many competitive businesses out there, it is truly refreshing that you openly share your knowledge with us. All the best Chris. You are an inspiration.

  10. Thanks for another excellent video, Chris… One of your best!

Congratulations on your anniversary and I hope you have a great time in Vegas.

Would you be willing to do a video about how exactly you create backlinks? This is one aspect of SEO that I find hard as I'm just getting started.

Oh, and please give my site your most brutal review!…

    Cheers Chris!
